Levi points the gun at Jean.

“Step away, __________, and come to me.” Levi orders flatly.  You squeeze Jean’s hand before standing up and walking from your place behind him to Levi's side.

At the first sign of weakness, I’m taking this motherfucker out.

Levi exhales deeply.  He leans over to you and says in a low voice, “I wouldn’t try anything if I were you, __________.  I’m faster, stronger, and let’s face it, more determined than you so whatever plan you’re cooking up in that pretty little head of yours, I suggest you forget it immediately…or else your precious little boyfriend gets it.” Your body stiffens as Levi clicks off the safety.

Shit. He’s not playing around…

“Now then,” Levi begins in a much louder voice, “I’ve got a problem that needs addressing and I think one of you may have the solution.”  Levi paces around the room taking care not to get too close to you or Jean.  “It appears that the love of my life wants to be with someone else.  So, what do you suggest I do about it?” Levi looks back and forth between you and Jean expectantly. “ Jean? __________?”

Both of you look vacuously at Levi , neither of you brave enough to speak.

“Oh, come on you two.  I’m being more than generous here.” Levi spouts in exasperation. He stops pacing and plops down on the bed, crossing his leg over his knee, switching the gun’s focus from Jean to you.  “If you can come up with a better solution than me killing the both of you, I’m all ears.”

“Got to hell,” Jean snarls in response.  Levi’s face drops into a scowl, his half lidded eyes sliding to Jean.

“I’m afraid that’s not an option...yet” Levi replies in a monotone before shooting Jean in the leg.  The sound that came from Jean was more than you could stand.  You automatically start towards him until Levi yells at you.

“Don’t move, __________!  Or else I’ll shoot him in his other leg.”  You whimper in acquiescence, sending an apologetic look in Jean’s direction.  Beads of sweat were forming on Jean’s forehead and upper lip, his face contorting in what could only be excruciating pain.

“That was rather enjoyable,” Levi snickers as if shooting Jean were just joke.  “I think I’ll shoot him again just for the hell of it!” Levi raises the gun and aims it at Jean’s shoulder.

I've got to do something.

“LEVI! NO! PLEASE DON’T!  I’LL DO ANYTHING! ANYTHING YOU WANT! I SWEAR!  JUST DON’T HURT HIM!” You scream out in mercy.  Levi lowers his gun and looks at you, his free hand casually resting underneath his chin.

“Anything?”

Good.  I’ve got his attention.

Yes…anything.” You reply, voice trembling.  Levi looks at the ceiling contemplatively.

“How do I know I can trust you?  All you’ve ever done is lie to me.”

“That’s not true!” You retort vehemently before you could restrain yourself.  Levi drops his gaze and shakes his head at you in mock admonishment.

“See?  That’s exactly what I’m talking about, __________.”  Levi faces Jean and angles the gun at Jean’s foot.  “So, it looks like I need to teach you a lesson.  For every lie you tell, my buddy Jean here is going to pay for it.”

BANG!

“Nooooooooooooooooo!”  You fall to your knees, melting into a puddle of helplessness.

Fuck!  This isn't working.  What am I going to do?

You sniffle and wipe the back of your hand across your face.

Jean’s going to die because of me.  Why didn't I put this jerk bastard in jail when I had the chance?

Tears expel themselves from your eyes as you beat your fists against the wooden floor.

God damn it.  Think  _________!  Think! There’s got to be some way out of this!

A few minutes pass until you slowly rise to your feet and face Levi, a plan taking shape in your mind.

“You’re right, Levi.” You murmur brokenly.  “I lied to you.  Every time I was late…every excuse that I ever gave you…they were all lies.”

“___________! No!” Jean panted in-between waves of pain.

“Shut up!” Levi barked, whipping the gun wildly in Jean’s face.  Levi walks over to you and gathers you in his arms, patting your hair while whispering consolingly in your ear.

“See?  That wasn't so hard, now was it?”  You simply nodded and continued your falsehood, placing all your hope and faith in your ability to come through for Jean.

“I was such a fool.  I don’t know why I didn't see it before.”  Fake tears welled in your eyes in an effort to make your performance as believable as possible.

“There, there, __________.  All that matters now is that you realized you were wrong.” A wide grin took residence upon Levi’s face as he hugged you and kissed you on your forehead.

“I’m so sorry, Levi.  I should have never left you.”

“I’m glad we’re of one mind now, __________.  I didn't really want to have to kill you and Jean.”  You burrow your face into the crook of Levi’s neck, hiding your revulsion.

I can’t keep this up much longer…

“I need you to do something for me.” Levi calls to you in askance.  You pull your body away from Levi’s and gaze at him with eyes of faux admiration.

“Anything, Levi.  I’ll do anything for you.”

“I need you to kill Jean.  It’s the only way we can be together.  You see that, right?” You nod your head solemnly and reach out for the gun.   Levi motions to give it to you and then pauses, an ugly scowl taking form on his now angry features.  His voice was thick with disgust.

“__________...what did I say to you about lying?”
